Directors from across the region gathered for a transformative day of education and inspiration at our recent Directors Workshop, led by the incomparable Master Director Lori Lyford.

Designed specifically for new and aspiring directors, the workshop provided a unique opportunity to gain personalized instruction and practical tools for leading a chorus with intention, clarity, and artistry.

Throughout the day, Lori’s signature patience, honesty, and engaging teaching style created a warm and welcoming learning environment. Attendees were encouraged to ask questions, try new techniques, and explore their own potential as leaders.

One of the key takeaways? Directing is far more than arm-waving. As Lori shared (and demonstrated!), every movement of the body sends a message to the singers. The angle of an elbow, the tension in a shoulder, the energy in a breath—all of these physical cues directly impact how the chorus responds vocally and emotionally.

Participants left the workshop not only with new skills and strategies, but also with a deeper appreciation for the art and responsibility of directing. Many expressed how grateful they were for Lori’s individual attention and thoughtful feedback—tailored to each director's experience and goals.

The Directors Workshop was an energizing and empowering day, and a reminder of the talent, passion, and potential that exists within our regional leadership. With expert mentors like Lori guiding the way, the future of our choruses is in good hands.
